Tess has been patiently waiting through three years of law school for James to pop the question. The night has finally arrived—at his graduation party. But his big announcement turns out to be completely unexpected . . . and devastating. Tess flees the party, promising herself to never again waste time on James. But as she makes a desperate cross-country drive, James makes his own plans on how to win her back.

My Thoughts

This novella is really sweet and it's not the usual hero. The hero is definitely not that charming in the beginning and I feel sad for Tess.

Tess believed in the promise that James made before he entered law school that he would marry her after he graduates. But when the hope that she carried for three years had been crushed by other big deal that James got, she did what's best, she ran. She was disappointed and absolutely sad because she felt that he kept taking her for granted after what she had given and sacrificed for him. It doesn't help that his mother doesn't like her at all.

James realized that he had to make things right before he made a mistake of letting the best thing he ever had go away. When Tess ran, he just understood his need of her.

I really like this story with the way James chased her."You don't know what you have until you lost it."It rang true for the whole story.

I felt really sad and annoyed of James at first. But when I saw his determination and what he'd done to ensure that she would want to be back at him, I liked him a bit, just a bit. Because three years of just putting Tess in "a cold shelf" didn't do him justice at all.

This story doesn't really show their relationship much. I just know that Tess had always look like his errand girl. Sure he did buy her some expensive stuff, but their moment and the seriousness in James for their relationship is surely lacking in all times that he studied in law school. He's not the kind of guy, a girl usually would be fighting for. So when Tess just gave up on him, I understood.

Overall, this story is nice and it's a good novella.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.
